Privacy Policy
Effective 5 November 2026
This policy explains what information the PartyWatch Chrome extension, its invite page and its party server handle, and why. PartyWatch is operated by Sharvex Technologies LLP ("we", "us" or "our").
PartyWatch lets a group of people watch the same online video in sync, with text chat and voice chat. It has no accounts and no sign-up.
1. Information we handle
Information you provide
- Display name: the name you type when creating or joining a party. It is shown to the other people in that party.
- Chat messages and emoji reactions you send in a party.
Information sent to run a party
- The link of the video page where the party was created, so people who join can be taken to the same video.
- Playback events: play, pause, seek, the current playback position, buffering, and whether an ad break is playing. These keep everyone's video in sync.
- Party details: the room code, invite token, a random user ID for this party, and whether you are the host.
- Voice status: whether you have joined voice chat.
Technical information
- IP address: the party server records the IP address of each connection in its short-lived operational logs, for security and troubleshooting. Our hosting providers may also process IP addresses to deliver their services.
What we do not collect
- No email address, phone number, password or payment information.
- No browsing history. The extension only runs on the supported streaming sites, and only sends the link of the video page used for the party.
- No video content. Each person streams the video from their own account. PartyWatch never receives, records or shares the video.
- No recordings of voice or chat.
- No analytics, advertising or tracking in the extension or on this website.
2. The invite page
Invite links open partywatch.sharvextech.com/join. The room code and invite token sit after the # in the link, which browsers do not send to the server hosting the page. The page reads them in your browser and passes them, with the name you enter, to the extension so it can join the party.
Only this website can talk to the extension. It can ask whether the extension is installed and ask it to join a room. It does not receive who you are or what you are watching.
3. Voice chat and your microphone
- PartyWatch uses your microphone only after you click Join Voice, and stops using it when you click Leave Voice or leave the party. Your browser asks for permission first.
- Voice audio is sent directly between participants' browsers using WebRTC, which encrypts it. Our server only passes the connection set-up messages between browsers and never receives the audio.
- To set up those connections, browsers use public STUN servers operated by Google to find a network path. When a direct connection isn't possible, the encrypted audio is relayed through a TURN server operated by Metered (Open Relay). The relay passes the encrypted audio along and cannot listen to it.
- You can stay in a party and listen without turning your microphone on.
4. How we use information
We use this information only to run watch parties: to connect people to the same party, keep playback in sync, deliver chat, reactions and voice, show who is in the party, and keep the service secure and working.
We do not sell or rent your information, share it for advertising, or use it for anything unrelated to PartyWatch.
5. Storage and retention
- On the party server: party information (display names, the video link, the playback position and party settings) is kept in memory only, while the party is active. A party ends when everyone leaves, or after 4 hours at most, and its information is then deleted. Chat messages and reactions are passed on to the other people in the party and are not stored on the server.
- In your browser, during a party: the extension keeps the current party's details and chat in Chrome's session storage, so the party survives the extension restarting in the background. This is cleared when you leave the party, and Chrome clears session storage when you close the browser.
- In your browser, saved name: the extension and the invite page each remember the last display name you used, on your device only, so you don't have to retype it. Uninstalling the extension removes its copy. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes the invite page's copy.
- Server logs: connection logs include IP addresses, room codes and random user IDs, but not names or chat. They are kept only briefly by our hosting provider, for operations and security.
6. Who can see your information
- People in your party see your display name, chat messages, reactions, whether you are in voice, and your playback actions (for example "Alex paused the video"). Anyone with the invite link can join the party, so share it only with people you trust.
- Service providers: the party server runs on servers at billefy.com and its cloud hosting provider. This website is hosted by Cloudflare. Voice may use the services described in section 3. They process data only to provide these services.
- We may disclose information if required by law.
7. Permissions the extension uses
- storage: keeps the current party's state and your saved name in your browser, as described above.
- alarms: during a party, regularly checks the connection to the party server and reconnects if it dropped.
- scripting: adds the extension's own bundled scripts to a supported site's tab that was already open, so a party works without reloading the page. When you open the popup on a supported site, it also checks whether the page has a video, so it can guide you. The result stays in your browser.
- Access to supported streaming sites: finds the video player, applies play, pause and seek from the party, detects ad breaks, and shows the party overlay. The extension does not run on other websites.
8. Security
Connections to the party server use encrypted WebSockets (WSS). Voice uses encrypted WebRTC. Joining a party requires its invite token. No method of transmission is completely secure, but we work to protect the information we handle.
9. Children
PartyWatch is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
10. Your choices
- You choose your display name for each party. It doesn't need to be your real name.
- You can leave a party at any time. Your information is then no longer part of that party.
- You can use PartyWatch without ever turning on your microphone.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
